Hi, I'm Helen! A UX designer 🖥 and researcher 🧠 based in Toronto.

As a graduate from the University of Toronto's Master of Information (UX Design) program and former psychology undergraduate student, I enjoy combining principles from both disciplines into my designs. My empathy, curiosity, and drive to solve problems led me to develop this meaningful career. With my past experiences that shape my current career aspirations, I am strongly interested in working in an organization that aligns with my values of striving for excellence, innovation, and integrity. I am passionate about doing UX research using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in mental health care, tech, and finance.

My Background and Experience

I'm currently open to full-time job opportunities. Previously, I was an Emerging Professional of Digital Scholarship (UX Designer) with UTSC Library, an Associate UX Researcher co-op student at Sun Life and a co-op student at the Ontario Energy Board. Previous to these experiences, I have worked as a design researcher at the Innovation Hub, a teaching assistant, a research assistant for the Wisdom & Identity lab, a sales associate at Uniqlo, and a peer support volunteer at Sunnybrook Hospital.

I've explored many different career avenues in life, and I'm excited to see where life takes me next!

Graduated with distinction with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree - Psychology Specialist & Buddhist Psychology Mental Health Minor.

Grew an interest in UX design after doing research on UofT's Master of Information program. I wanted a career that could blend both creativity and analytical skills.

Took Google's UXD certificate course and fell in love with UXD. In September, I started classes at UofT and worked simultaneously as a teaching assistant for Intro to Buddhist Psychology and design researcher at the Innovation Hub.

By now, I gained a repository of knowledge in courses in UX design, user research, information architecture, accessibility and inclusion, and graphic design for UX.

Worked as an Emerging Professional in Digital Scholarship - UX Testing with UTSC Library, took the capstone course in UX, and graduated!

My Hobbies

In my free time, I enjoy reading rom-coms, cooking innovative recipes, and journaling. In the past, I have worked in several mental health organizations, including providing emotional support to individuals who faced mental health challenges as a peer support worker. The communication skills I have developed and the empathy I have for users stem from these experiences.
